I have long held the
view that customer service is a veritable tool for Nation development in all
spheres of development you can think of, and it would definitely go a long way
in boosting Safety issues. Am I saying SERVICOM and the FRSC (and any other
agency concerned with safety) should merge together? Of course not (though the thought had crossed my mind on
more than one occasion).
I like to see customer service as the "act of treating people the
way you want to be treated and even better". Does this sound familiar in safety
slogans? One slogan readily comes to mind- "Drive as if your family is in
the other car".
The day we actually start to take actions that are safe, not just because they are safe but because they are safe for everybody else will be the very day that behavior-based safety programs will start to record success and more eye gratifying, satisfying statistics will be recorded in Nigeria.
